The Gentle Barn rescues, rehabilitates and gives sanctuary to severely abused animals who can’t be adopted into homes. They connect abused children, kids recovering from substance abuse, kids on probation, foster kids, and children and adults with mental, emotional, and physical challenges with these animals. Through this interaction the the children learn forgiveness, courage, compassion, strength, leadership skills, trust, empathy, and kindness.
The Gentle Barn Foundation, founded in 1999 has been a home to hundreds of animals rescued from abuse and over the years has hosted over 400,000 people. They currently have four locations across the US and hope to one day have a Gentle Barn in every state so that everyone can hug, learn from and connect with these animals. They are sanctuary to horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, llamas, peacocks, emus, cats and dogs. The Gentle Barn’s mission is to teach people kindness and compassion to animals, each other, and our planet.
