Plant-based chicken startup Rebellyous opens factory in former meat processing plant
Vegan chicken startup Rebellyous—and Blue Horizon portfolio company—has taken over an old meat processing plant in West Seattle. The company plans to convert more meat factories in the future. Rebellyous ultimately aims to keep up with the efficiency of Big Chicken, an industry that slaughters 9 billion chickens every year in the U.S. alone.
Rebellyous produces plant-based nuggets made out of wheat and soy protein. The vegan chicken has nearly three times more fiber, 40 percent less saturated fat and sodium, and 20-30 percent more protein than conventional chicken nuggets. They contain no antibiotics, hormones, or cholesterol.
