JUST Brand Fans Show Demand For Plant-based Eggs

A plant-based replacement for chicken eggs was always a goal when Josh Tetrick started Hampton Creek in in December 2011.

The company has set up a consumer action campaign to show retailers and restaurants that the demand for a plant-based egg alternative is there.

Consumers can go to the campaign’s web page to find scripts they can use to call or e-mail retailers and restaurants in their area to request the product be stocked. There are also tickets that can be printed out and hand delivered to the stores. Images of tickets for specific retailers turn yellow when a retailer agrees to start selling JUST Egg. The growing list of yellow tickets includes Lucky, Save Mart Supermarkets, Wegmans, Veggie Grill and distributor United Natural Foods.

By Tuesday, about 9,000 consumers had taken a direct action either via the site or on social media, with Whole Foods Market, Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Target and Kroger named as the five retailers with the most requests, the company said.
