Blue Horizon Invests in Beyond Meat

In November, blue horizon invested in the alternative food company Beyond Meat. With this investment, blue horizon hopes that Beyond Meat will be able to develop their existing line of products and make plant-based protein more available and affordable than ever.

Food is one of the cornerstones of human need, relationships, and society. It has always been a part of life. But there are better, less destructive ways we can fuel ourselves and enjoy around the dinner table. That’s why companies like Beyond Meat can help reduce the environmental impacts of our food consumption.

Beyond Meat is taking on the convenience meat industry, creating plant-based protein that can replace animal protein so well that you might not even know the difference. Their range of products include burgers, “chicken” strips, and “beef” crumbles. These products are convenient and easily replace their animal-based counterparts, so even the most carnivorous consumer can’t tell the difference. Currently their products are available at Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, Kroger, and other retailers all across the United States.

The team at Beyond Meat believes that good plant-based protein can rival the best beef burgers, fried chicken and steak. They also seek to reduce the problems that mass meat production has contributed to – animal cruelty, climate change, and environmental pollution and destruction.

What’s more, their plant-based products are free from all the nutritional deficiencies of animal protein, such as cholesterol and saturated fats. Nor do they use GMOs, soy or gluten, so their products are great for everyone.

CEO and Founder Ethan Brown worked in clean energy for more than a decade before he was moved to look into plant-based protein that could convincingly replace meat products. He established Beyond Meat for just this purpose.

“blue horizon is a terrific partner for Beyond Meat,” Ethan Brown says, “and I am very pleased to welcome them as an investor. We are fast collaborating on market development and are grateful for the energy, perspective, and reach the team is bringing to our shared vision. We look forward to a long and productive relationship with blue horizon.”

Roger Lienhard, CEO of blue horizon adds: “In order to achieve our vision of a plant-based future, we’ll need to get more people to eat more plants. Beyond Meat is finding a way to bring plant-based protein to all consumers, improving the health of both people and planet. We hope that together we can make this future a reality.”
